Fall 2019

CLASSES are held once a week, for 40 minutes, and are limited to 12 children (plus their parents or caregivers, if the age-group warrants). Children are grouped within their birth year (like they are in school), and “graduate” to the next level each September. The material is structured around the participants, and no two terms are ever alike!

Drop-in/trial classes are still possible in the Fall term. Please contact us at  littlevoices@sympatico.ca to arrange this.

The 11 week Fall term runs:
Sat: Sept 14 – Nov 30 (x Oct 12)
Mon: Sept 16 – Dec 2 (x Oct 14)
Tue: Sept 17 – Dec 3 (x Oct 15)
Wed: Sept 18 – Dec 4 (x Oct 16)
Fri: Sept 20 – Dec 6 (x Oct 11)

There will be no classes Thanksgiving weekend and Oct 11-16. In the event of an unscheduled cancelled class, it will be made up at the end of the term (Dec 7 – 13). Missed classes can be made up within the term, if there is room in an appropriate age group, and by prior arrangement.

“WIGGLERS” ~ born in ‘19
We’ll learn songs and rhymes for fingers & toes, clapping, bouncing, tickling, swinging, and peek- a-boo! They’ll have special instruments to explore orally, and aurally. Puppets, scarves, & little dances heighten the enjoyment until lullaby time brings a soothing close.
Tue: 11:45 at St. John’s Norway Church

“WANDERERS” ~ born in ’18
We try to keep pace with their boundless energy with bouncing, clapping, tickling & peek-a-boo songs, as well as finding toes & noses, and puppets that might “quack” or “moo”. They’ll play a multitude of percussion instruments (drums, tambourines, shakers, bells, rhythm sticks, rainsticks, castanets, finger cymbals, and more), and play & dance to music from around the world. But even they need a lullaby!
Mon: 9:30 at St. John’s Norway Church
Tue: 11:00 at St. John’s Norway Church
Sat: 9:00 at Kew Park Montessori Day School

“MOVERS & SHAKERS” ~ born in ‘17
Now we add in songs & rhymes for budding imaginations. They’ll explore a bounty of percussion instruments (drums, tambourines, shakers, bells, rhythm sticks, rainsticks, castanets, finger cymbals, and more), plus scarves to dance with, and musical books & puppets, until it’s time to rock a Teddy to sleep.
Mon: 10:15 at St. John’s Norway Church
Sat: 9:45 at Kew Park Montessori Day School

“FIRST ADVENTURES IN DANCE” ~ for children born in ’16 & ’17
What better way for children to experience music than through movement? Scarves, balloons, streamers, instruments, puppets and more will have them exercising their imagination, as well as their bodies, to a wide variety of music while learning the first elements of dance! Grownups get to stay & dance, too 🙂 (No charge for accompanying younger siblings if safely strapped into car seats, strollers or baby carriers).
Tue: 10:15 at St. John’s Norway Church

“MUSIC MAKERS” ~ born in ‘16
Focus is on playfully discovering rhythms, exploring pitch & dynamics, and developing beat & vocal skills through songs, rhymes, puppets, stories, and creative movement. “Orff” instruments (and many others) will be introduced. (During the week, children stay on their own when ready. On Sat grownups stay, too!)
Mon: 1:30 at St. John’s Norway Church
Sat: 10:30 at Kew Park Montessori Day School

“FAMILY MUSIC” ~ all ages
There’s no age limit; all that’s needed is an interest in having fun making music together! Families/caregivers with just one child are welcome, too. (Discount for multiple enrolments.)
Fri10:15 at St. John’s Norway

We’ll have fun with beat, pitch, rhythm & dynamics while playing singing games, creating sound effects for stories and poems, and improvising with xylophones, drums, and many other multi-cultural percussion instruments. Musical literacy will be introduced. (This is a “drop off” program.)
Sat: 11:30 at Kew Park Montessori Day School

“KODORFF” ~ Grades 1-3 (SK by special permission)
“Kodaly” & “Orff” teaching methods are combined with a dash of “Dalcroze”, so learning is vibrant and active. We’ll play clapping and singing games, then transfer the rhythms to almost anything that can be struck, shaken, or rubbed to make sound! We’ll create soundscapes for stories & poems, and begin to learn the basics of reading & writing music.
Mon: 4:00 at St. John’s Norway Church
